Elderberry Syrup

It’s that time of year. Time to get ready for colder weather. I filled my mason jar with the good stuff. Nope not murky moonshine – freshly made elderberry syrup. It’s easy to make and a lot less expensive than buying the readymade. Besides, making it yourself mean you can mix in whatever you’re into. You can make an extra sweet blend, an extra spicy blend, etc. It’s totally up to you.

Elderberry Syrup

Recipe

4 cups water

1 ¼ cup dried elderberries

1 tsp ground ginger (optional)

2 cinnamon sticks (optional, unless you’re me and then it’s a must)

5 whole cloves (optional)

½ teaspoon orange zest (optional)

1 cup honey

Put everything except the honey in a sauce pot. Bring to a boil then simmer for about 45 minutes. Pour the mix through a fine mesh strainer. Add honey to the mix and stir. Refrigerate. Should be good for 2 or so months.
