Sewing Table Makeover

I had been looking for a small table in a French Provincial style for awhile when I found this sewing table. Not exactly what I was looking for, but too cheap to pass up. When I got home I realized it was too large to be the table I needed. I started thinking about other uses and came across this sewing-cabinet-outdoor-bar idea. Brillant. I removed the hardware and roughly sanded the piece.

Before

I painted the base with an exterior latex paint in a color called Clover. I spray painted the top and the hardware gold. I could not find a bucket to inset into the the table. Nothing fit or could be made to fit in a way that looked good.

After

I ended up using a tray from IKEA to cover the hole where the sewing machine would have been when the table was opened. The heavier items (such as a vintage ice bucket and/or wine bottles, etc.) can go on the table side, with light items such as napkins and glasses can go on the right. Even though I used exterior paint, the table is kept inside. It’s fairly light and can be moved outdoors as needed. If you are looking for a space saving versatile piece – this could be the makeover for you.
